ETH Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

ETH pulled back from roughly 2,750 yesterday to the 2,687 area today, down about 2.7% intraday, but it still sits above the monthly upper trigger at 2,659 and remains up nearly 9.9% week over week. The market is still in “consolidation above the upper edge,” not a trend-break regime.
The key change in options today is that both net greeks and Block/Combo flow shifted away from vol selling and toward vol buying: net vega and net gamma flipped positive, with replenishment visible in the front end and the intermediate tenors.
The implied-vol surface stayed upward-sloping, with richer put wings than call wings, while DVOL held near 51% in a low-to-mid regime. Vol is not cheap, but it is not stretched either.
Bottom line: today reinforced the post-breakout digestion theme, while also signaling renewed demand for volatility and larger short-term swings, especially around the 2,700 area.

Spot and volatility regime

Spot vs DVOL (4H)

Click to solo · double-click to hide/show

ETH spot settled at 2,687.71, lower on the day but still clearly above the monthly upper trigger at 2,658.31 and well above the lower trigger at 2,275.69. On the monthly ATR framework, price remains in the repair/extension zone above the upper edge, not back in the middle of the range.
With the monthly ATR band at about 456.9 points, spot is still trading close to the upper trigger, so the tape remains centered on upper-edge consolidation. A loss of 2,658 would materially weaken the structure and shift the regime toward a retest of the upper boundary from below.
The provided trend stack data is incomplete for the EMA levels, so I can’t quantify the full 20/50/100/200 alignment today. What is clear is that price is still holding the monthly trigger zone and has not erased the higher-timeframe repair.

Implied vol surface

The term structure remains upward sloping. Front-end ATM IV is around 34.9%, while the back end rises progressively into the 50s, with the longest tenors hovering near 57%–58%. That is a classic shape of cheaper front-end risk and more expensive longer-dated uncertainty.
Skew remains put-rich versus calls. The 5P through 25P wings stay materially richer than the corresponding call wings, and the shortest expiries — 25SEP, 26SEP, 27SEP, 28SEP — keep a steeper downside skew than the farther expiries.
The read-through is front-end replenishment plus persistent downside skew, not a broad vol shock. Short-dated protection demand is still being paid for, and upside chasing has not flattened the surface.

DVOL index

DVOL is currently 51.06%, slightly down from yesterday, but still sitting in a low one-year / low-to-mid three-month percentile band. The 1Y Rank/Percentile is still depressed, while the 3M band is closer to the middle but not elevated.
In other words, DVOL has repaired off the lows, but it is not expensive. If spot chops around the upper edge, DVOL can still drift higher, but the setup is not one of stressed or crowded vol.

Options chain structure

Options chain · Open interest (calls & puts)
Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

Open-interest gravity remains concentrated in the front end and the 90d+ bucket, but activity over the last 24 hours picked up noticeably in the 1–7D and 31–90D buckets as well. That tells us this is not just an isolated 0DTE (expires same calendar day) tape.
The most important near-spot strikes remain 2,500, 2,600, 2,700, and 2,800. The 2,600 area still carries heavy put inventory and large 0DTE (expires same calendar day) turnover, while 2,700 is the main battleground just above spot. 2,800 and above continue to show active call rolling and buying.
On the farther end, 25DEC, 26MAR, and 24SEP27 are all meaningfully represented in both open interest and turnover, so some risk is being pushed out the curve instead of staying entirely intraday.
By expiry, 25SEP is still the dominant battlefield, but 26SEP, 28SEP, and 2OCT are the more active near-term add-ons, while 25DEC and 26MAR show a more durable demand for intermediate- to longer-dated positioning. This looks like layered cross-Tenor bucket rollup positioning, not a single-expiry squeeze.

Today’s net greeks shifted to a generally long-gamma / long-vega posture, while net delta remained slightly negative. That is a notable change from a vol-selling posture.
By expiry, 25SEP still dominates the short-end tape through heavy 0DTE (expires same calendar day) activity and carries the largest short-term gamma effect. But 26SEP, 25DEC, 26MAR, and 24SEP27 all contributed visible positive vega and gamma as well, so the buying is not confined to the front end.
By contrast, some parts of 25JUN27, 30OCT26, and 27NOV26 were net vega/gamma sellers, so the whole curve is not uniformly bullish vol. The market is buying vol where it matters most near the front and in several key intermediate buckets, while some farther-dated sectors still supply it.
The most important strikes today are 2,700, 2,800, 2,500, 2,600, 3,200, and 3,000:

  • 2,700 is the core near-spot battleground, with meaningful delta, vega, and gamma build.
  • 2,600 remains a major put-defense area, with strong 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7D turnover.
  • 2,800, 3,000, and 3,200 reflect upside extension insurance and participation.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the report snapshot at 00:01 UTC on Sep 25 (rolling window, not the calendar report day).
Flow flipped from net vega/gamma selling yesterday to net vega/gamma buying today, with buyer-led structure visible across multiple expiries.
The composition is still block-heavy, but calls spreads, put spreads, calendars, and a small amount of risk reversals, ladders, and ratio structures all participated. This is not a one-way bearish tape; it is a layered buying pattern.
The most important prints concentrated around 25SEP, 26SEP, 28SEP, 2OCT, 25DEC, 26MAR, and 24SEP27. Near-dated put buying was especially heavy, while 26SEP/28SEP/2OCT showed mixed call and put activity that lines up well with the listed options position data.
Interpretation: this looks like traders paying for protection and optionality after the spot pullback, rather than leaning harder into vol selling.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

The most obvious change is that spot pulled back from the 2,750 area, but did not lose the 2,659 monthly trigger, so the structure moved further into “post-breakout digestion” rather than trend failure.
In the options chain, yesterday was more front-end squeezed; today was broader, with 1–7D, 31–90D, 25DEC, and 26MAR all contributing more visible activity. Risk budget is being spread across more tenors.
Net greeks shifted away from vol selling and toward long vega / long gamma, especially in the front and middle of the curve. That weakens the “sell theta, fade vol” tone that was more apparent yesterday.
Block/Combo flow confirmed the same shift, so this appears structural rather than just a noisy print.

3. Multi-Day Context

Over the past week, ETH has been repairing from below 2,600, reclaiming the 2,659 monthly upper trigger and extending toward the 2,700 area. Today’s pullback did not break that theme; it reinforced the idea of consolidation above the upper edge.
The last two sessions matter most:

  • On Sep 22–23 the market was already transitioning from strong upside into high-level digestion, while still holding the key trigger.
  • Today confirms that the move is not failing; instead, the market is re-pricing volatility after the extension.
So today does not weaken the dominant weekly theme. It actually sharpens it: the market is still in the repair/extension regime, but is now moving into a more sensitive re-pricing phase.
If earlier this week the question was “can ETH hold above the upper edge?”, today the question is “who pays for the next swing?”

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • Upside reference levels: 2,700, 2,800, 3,000, 3,200
    • 2,700 is the key near-spot battleground and the most likely gamma magnet.
    • 2,800/3,000/3,200 define the upside extension path if strength resumes.
  • Downside reference levels: 2,658, 2,600, 2,550, 2,500
    • 2,658 is the monthly upper trigger; losing it would materially weaken structure.
    • 2,600 remains the main near-dated put-defense zone.
    • 2,550/2,500 still carry meaningful tail protection.
  • Volatility risk zones:
    • If spot churns between 2,658 and 2,700, short-dated gamma can keep intraday ranges sticky and two-sided.
    • If price loses 2,600, put skew likely steepens further and DVOL can continue higher.
    • If spot reclaims 2,750, upside call rolling and longer-dated vega buying should reassert.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Scenario 1: Hold above 2,658 and consolidate around 2,700

This is still the base case. The structure remains upper-edge consolidation, and short-dated gamma can continue to pin price and amplify two-way intraday ranges.
Monitor: whether 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / 1–7D turnover continues to cluster near 2,700; whether the 2,600 put bid thickens; whether DVOL grinds higher without becoming disorderly.

Scenario 2: Reclaim 2,700 and push toward 2,800/3,000

If spot regains 2,700 and extends, today’s call rolling and longer-dated vega buying could feed further upside continuation.
Monitor: whether the 2,800 call wall gets absorbed; whether 25DEC/26MAR call spread and outright call demand keeps building; whether the surface remains upward sloping on the call side.

Scenario 3: Lose 2,658 and test 2,600

A loss of the monthly trigger would likely steepen downside skew, and the front-end gamma regime could turn more volatile intraday.
Monitor: whether put turnover at 2,600 and 2,550 expands; whether 25SEP / 26SEP / 2OCT put demand stays dominant; whether DVOL expands away from the 51 area into a higher band.

6. Trader Focus

  • Today is still consolidation above the upper edge, not trend failure; 2,658 is the key line.
  • 2,700 remains the core battleground and a likely gamma magnet.
  • Net greeks and Block/Combo both shifted toward vol buying, so the market is paying for more motion.
  • Put skew is still rich, which means downside protection demand has not gone away.
  • DVOL is still tradable but not expensive; if spot stays range-bound, front-end volatility could continue to rebuild.

Interpretation

The most important story today is not that ETH fell 2.7%; it is that the market sold off without breaking structure, and options participants responded by buying back volatility.
That tells us the 2,659 area is still being treated as a structural reference point, not an exhausted breakout.
For experienced options traders, the real focus now is the interaction between short-dated gamma around 2,700, put defense below 2,600, and the replenishment pattern in 25DEC/26MAR.

Monitoring

  • Whether 2,658 holds.
  • Whether 2,700 keeps attracting both pinning and turnover.
  • Whether the 2,600 put wall thickens.
  • Whether 25SEP / 26SEP / 2OCT continue to favor vol buying.
  • Whether DVOL grinds higher from ~51 or fades back lower.
