ETH Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

  • ETH spot printed 2,749.7, essentially flat intraday, but still up about 14.5% week over week. Structurally, price remains above the monthly upper ATR trigger at 2,658.8 and is still trading in the upper half of the monthly ATR band.
  • Options flow shifted clearly toward “sell vol, collect premium”: net delta, net vega, and net gamma were all heavily negative, with most activity concentrated in 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / 1–7d and the 25SEP26, 25DEC26, and 26MAR27 buckets.
  • The implied vol surface firmed across the front and middle. Skew remains put-rich, but DVOL is still in a historically subdued band, so today reads more like internal repricing than a full volatility regime shift.
  • The 24h block/combo tape confirmed the same message: net vega selling, softer gamma, and broad participation across block-only prints and multi-leg structures.
  • The weekly theme remains “range repair extending above the upper edge,” but today shifted from repair buying into higher-level vol selling and position rebalancing.

  • Spot closed at 2,749.7, down only 0.15% on the day but still up about 14.5% over the week. ETH has not given back the recovery built over the past week.
  • Both the daily and 4h closes sit around 2,750. Against the monthly ATR framework, price remains safely above the upper trigger at 2,658.8.
  • The monthly range width is about 456.9, putting the close at roughly 56.2% of ATR range coverage. That is upper-half positioning, but not an extreme extension.
  • EMA stack data is missing in the bundle, so I would avoid reading a precise moving-average regime here. The clean read is still “high-level digestion above the upper edge,” not reversal.

Implied vol surface

  • The term structure is broadly firmer, with ATM running roughly from 37.2% to 55.2% across the curve. The front end remains above the back end, so the front-premium structure is intact.
  • 25SEP26, 26SEP26, 2OCT26, and 30OCT26 all moved higher in a way that looks broad-based rather than expiry-specific.
  • Skew remains put-rich. The 5P through 45P strip is still bid versus ATM, especially in the front and middle tenors, which keeps downside protection expensive.
  • Calls also moved up, so this was not just a one-sided fear bid; it was a broader surface uplift.

DVOL index

  • DVOL eased to 51.13, down about 2.9% from the prior session and around 7.0% versus last week.
  • The 1Y IV Rank / IV Percentile sits near 11.7 / 14.0, while the 3M band is about 36.9 / 44.5. That still keeps DVOL in a low-to-mid historical zone.
  • So while the surface got more expensive in pockets, the vol index did not confirm a full volatility expansion.

Options chain structure

Options chain · Open interest (calls & puts)
Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

  • The options chain remains front-end centered. 25SEP26 is still the main open-interest hub, while 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7d tenors dominated turnover and Open Interest (OI) migration, especially around 23SEP26, 24SEP26, and 25SEP26.
  • Near-spot strikes 2700, 2750, and 2800 remain the key pressure points. Above that, 3000 and 3200 are the main call concentration zones; below that, 2600, 2500, and 2300 continue to build put inventory.
  • By Tenor bucket rollup, 1–7d and 91d+ to expiry both carry large Open Interest (OI), but today’s turnover was still clearly front-loaded. 26MAR27 and 25DEC26 remain structurally important, though they acted more as vol-sell venues today than outright directional expressions.
  • The message is not clean directional conviction farther out on the curve; it is more about rolling and re-pricing around spot.

  • Net Greeks were decisively bearish: net delta -23.2k, net vega -160.1k, and net gamma -10.7k, with positive theta collected.
  • The heaviest selling came from 26MAR27 and 25DEC26, both of which showed clear net negative delta, vega selling, and gamma selling.
  • Short-dated exposure also mattered: 23SEP26 and 25SEP26 contributed very large gamma pressure, which keeps the front end highly sensitive.
  • By strike, 2500, 2300, 2800, 1900, and 2000 carried the heaviest sell pressure. 3000, 4000, and a few 2600/2650 zones showed localized hedge-style buying in vega/gamma.
  • Overall, the flow says the market is more willing to sell implied volatility and gamma at elevated levels than to add protective length.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

  • In the rolling 24h through the 00:00 UTC snapshot, block/combo activity also leaned heavily toward net vega selling, with net delta more negative and net gamma softer as well.
  • Block-only prints dominated, but the combo mix remained broad: call spreads, put spreads, call/put calendars, strangles, straddles, and even an iron condor appeared in the tape.
  • The flow was concentrated in the same expiries as the chain: 25SEP26, 25DEC26, 26MAR27, and to a lesser extent 30OCT26.
  • A few legs bought vol, but the dominant impression remains broad-based vega supply rather than aggressive volatility demand.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

  • Spot slipped modestly from about 2,771 yesterday to 2,750 today, but it remained comfortably above 2,659, so the “above the upper trigger” structure is intact.
  • The main change is in options posture: yesterday’s more repair-like bid has given way to a more explicit vol-sell / premium-collection mix.
  • Front-end Open Interest (OI) continues to build, but today it was paired with better-mown implieds and heavier selling in both the net Greeks and the large-trade tape.
  • DVOL did not extend higher; it rolled over slightly. That means the session was about repricing and stockpiling flows, not a vol regime breakout.
  • Relative to the prior day, the market is less about “buying the recovery” and more about “selling vol into the recovery.”

3. Multi-Day Context

  • Over the past week, ETH’s dominant theme has been a repair move from the 2,400–2,500 area into a clean reclaim of 2,600 and then a sustained move above the monthly upper trigger at 2,659.
  • Since 18 Sep, spot has gradually repaired, with 19–21 Sep confirming repeated upper-edge tests and then follow-through above the edge.
  • Today fits as a high-level digestion day above the upper edge: not a failure, but a rebalancing of premium and vol exposure.
  • The weekly options theme has evolved from “range repair + upper-edge probing” into “upper-edge extension + front-end repricing,” and today pushed that one step further toward vol selling.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • First upside level: 2,800. This is the nearest call-wall / front-end pressure point and the first obvious intraday magnet.
  • Second upside level: 3,000. This area has heavy turnover and Open Interest (OI) migration, and a clean break could re-ignite short-dated call gamma.
  • First downside level: 2,700. This is the put wall and the threshold where front-end risk starts to build faster.
  • Second downside band: 2,650–2,600. This remains the most important near-spot defense zone, with substantial put Open Interest (OI) and trading interest.
  • Below that, 2,500 / 2,300 / 2,000 remain structurally important support zones in the longer-dated tape.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Base case

  • If spot holds above 2,750 and rotates back toward 2,800, the market likely keeps trading this as upper-edge consolidation.
  • In that case, front-end vols can stay elevated, but DVOL may not need to accelerate meaningfully higher.

Bullish extension

  • If 2,800 is reclaimed cleanly, the local call wall may start to loosen and 3,000 becomes the next magnet.
  • Watch whether 25SEP26 call Open Interest (OI) continues migrating toward 3,000 / 3,200, and whether 0DTE (expires same calendar day) flow keeps reinforcing upside gamma.

Weakening scenario

  • If spot loses 2,750 and then slips under 2,700, the put wall should regain control of the front end.
  • A move into 2,650–2,600 would make the current vol-sell structure more sensitive, with front-end gamma likely to expand quickly.

What matters tomorrow

  • Track 2,750 / 2,700 / 2,800 on the screen.
  • Watch whether 25SEP26 continues to concentrate around 2,800 / 3,000.
  • Monitor whether 26MAR27 and 25DEC26 keep showing net vega and gamma supply, or whether hedging starts to reappear.
  • Keep an eye on DVOL around 51; if it fails to re-accelerate, today looks like structural rebalancing rather than a volatility regime break.

6. Trader Focus

  • Spot structure is still constructive, but the options market clearly shifted from repair buying to vol selling today.
  • Front-end activity remains dominant; 25SEP26 and the 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / 1–7d complex still matter most.
  • DVOL is still in a subdu ed historical band, so this was not a high-vol breakout day.
  • 2,800 and 2,700 are the key short-term inflection points for the next session.
  • If price slips back under 2,750, the front-end vol-sell structure could make downside tape more reactive.
