ETH Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

ETH spot settled at 2,437 today, extending the drift lower from yesterday and staying below 2,500. The market remains inside the monthly ATR framework: the 2,659 upper trigger is still unreclaimed and the 2,275 lower trigger is still intact. So this is still range digestion and re-pricing, not trend confirmation.

On vol, DVOL eased to 53.36 and remains around the low-to-lower-middle historical band, but the listed surface did not cheapen in a simple way. Front-end IV and put-wing richness remain elevated, which says downside protection is still being priced. The options chain is still centered around 2,400–2,500, with near-dated and 8–30 day tenors carrying the heaviest Open Interest (OI), volume, and greek exposure.

The key change today was in flow: block/combo activity shifted from yesterday’s more front-end vol-bid tone to a clearer split structure of far-dated vol buying versus near-dated vol selling. The biggest expression came in 30OCT26 put buying, while 25SEP26 looked more like a venue for vol supply and structural hedging. That is a move from one-directional pressure to segmented surface repricing.

Spot vs DVOL (4H)

Click to solo · double-click to hide/show

ETH’s latest daily and 4h closes are both 2,437, confirming continued pressure below 2,500. Recent daily bars show a steady drift down from the 2,500-plus area into the lower half of the current range. The move is still contained within the monthly ATR band, so the structure is lower gravity within range, not disorderly breakdown.

The monthly ATR framework remains neutral. Spot is still well below the 2,659 upper trigger and above the 2,275 lower trigger, with a roughly 195-point active swing zone and only about 24% of ATR traversed. In desk terms, higher-timeframe structure is intact, but the 2,400 area is becoming a more important pivot zone.

Implied vol surface

The term structure remains front-end rich and flatter in the back. Front-end ATM IV is roughly in the 34%–38% zone, while farther expiries lift toward the mid-50s to high-50s, so this is not a simple front-end decay story. Short-dated vols are still clearly richer than the back end, especially at 11SEP26, 12SEP26, and 18SEP26.

Skew is also still elevated. Put wings across 5P through 45P remain well bid versus ATM, and call wings are not cheap either, though downside protection remains the richer side of the surface. The move looks broad-based across expiries rather than isolated to a single Tenor bucket rollup.

DVOL index

DVOL sits at 53.36, slightly lower on the day but still modestly above last week’s level. The 1Y IV Rank / IV Percentile remains in a low band, while the 3M reading is around mid-range. That means vol is not in a stress regime, but it is no longer in the very cheap part of the distribution either.

This is a “low but repairing” vol regime. For sellers, the margin for error in the front end is thinner than a few sessions ago; for buyers, implied is not cheap, but the surface still carries enough premium to justify protection bids.

Options chain structure

Options chain · Open interest (calls & puts)
Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

The options chain remains centered around 2,400–2,500. 25SEP26 is still the largest Open Interest (OI) container, and the 8–30 day bucket remains the deepest in the chain. At the same time, 0DTE (expires same calendar day), 1–7 day, and 31–90 day tenors all remain active, which keeps both front-end pinning and short-to-intermediate rolling in play.

By strike, 2,500 remains the central near-spot hub, 2,400 continues to anchor downside protection, and 2,300 / 2,200 form lower support layers. On the upside, 2,600, 2,700, and 3,000 still carry buy interest, so the market is not abandoning upside continuation pricing, even if near-term posture is defensive.

The most important rows remain the 8–30 day strikes around 2,500 Call, 2,400 Put, 2,300 Put, and 2,600 Call. Farther out, 30OCT26 around 2,300 Put, 2,000 Put, and 2,600 Call helps frame the longer-dated risk surface. In short, the chain is still about near-spot protection on both sides plus upside extension supply.

Net greeks were more split today, not one-way. 30OCT26 printed net negative delta with net vega and gamma buying, which is consistent with a far-dated vol bid. 25SEP26, by contrast, showed net positive delta with net vega and gamma selling, which reads more like near-to-intermediate vol supply and decay collection. 12SEP26 also leaned toward vol/gamma selling, while 18SEP26 was more constructive.

By strike, 2,300 had the strongest pocket of net vega and gamma buying, reinforcing the lower-tail protection bid. 2,420 / 2,440 / 2,500 leaned more toward vega and gamma selling, with 2,420 and 2,440 carrying the heavier gamma pressure. 2,600 and 3,000 still showed healthier upside interest.

The takeaway is a market that is not collectively buying vol, nor collectively selling it. Instead, traders are splitting risk across tenors and strikes around 2,400–2,500. That is usually a catalyst-waiting structure rather than a clean directional conviction trade.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the snapshot at 00:00 UTC on Sep 10 (rolling window, not the calendar report day) showed net vega of 27.8k, net gamma of 634.3, and net delta of -2,025.0. The mix was led by block-only legs, call spreads, and put spreads, with some call diagonal calendars and iron condors mixed in. That points to risk segmentation rather than outright directional positioning.

The standout flow was 30OCT26 2,300 puts, where the market showed strong put-side buying and positive vega/gamma demand. At the same time, 25SEP26 activity around 2,100 / 2,200 / 2,300 / 2,400 / 2,500 was more mixed and often vol-supplying in nature. In other words, the near-end looked like vol supply, while farther out absorbed protection demand.

This is broadly consistent with both the chain and net greek picture: 25SEP26 remained under pressure, while 30OCT26 and some farther-dated structures absorbed a clearer vol bid. A few block prints had delta signs that do not fully line up with the structure sleeve, so some of the tape looks more like structural rebalance than pure outright direction.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

Price-wise, ETH slipped from roughly 2,468 to 2,437, moving further into the lower half of the 2,400–2,500 zone. Both daily and 4h closes finished lower, so yesterday’s sideways weakness turned into a more explicit drift down today. The monthly ATR structure is still intact, so this remains a range rotation, not a structural break.

On volatility, DVOL eased a bit versus yesterday, but the surface did not soften in a straightforward way. Front-end vols and put wings remained rich. Compared with the prior session’s more front-end vol-bid tone, today’s surface looks more like continued richness in the front end, with buying migrating farther out the curve.

On the chain and greek side, 25SEP26 is still the largest book, but the flow split became more obvious today: 30OCT26 bought vol more aggressively, while 25SEP26 sold vol more clearly. Near-spot 2,420 / 2,440 / 2,500 remained the center of gravity. So rather than extending yesterday, today rotated into a more explicit maturity segmentation.

3. Multi-Day Context

Over the past week, ETH has been in a monthly ATR digestion structure: repeated repair above 2,500 earlier in the week, followed by weakening stability above that level, then a drift down into the 2,460–2,480 zone. Today’s 2,437 close continues that migration lower.

Relative to the weekly theme, today did not break the core “range digestion” idea, but it did reinforce the pattern of repeated upper-end rejection and a lower center of gravity. What started as repair early in the week is increasingly being translated into shorter-dated vol repricing rather than trend continuation.

The weekly options theme is still concentrated in near-month and near-spot structures. What changed today is that far-dated structures are now absorbing a more obvious vol bid. That pushes the weekly regime from “front-end event risk” toward “surface rebalancing,” with the 2,300–2,600 strike band becoming more important than just the 2,500 pivot alone.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • 2,500: the most important pivot and near-spot call barrier; reclaiming it would improve near-term tone.
  • 2,440 / 2,420: the main near-spot battleground, with heavy Open Interest (OI) and gamma; the most likely pinning zone.
  • 2,400: psychological support and put-wall area; a break here would likely trigger more protection demand.
  • 2,300: the next meaningful downside support and one of the strongest buy zones, especially in 30OCT26.
  • 2,600: first upside resistance and extension zone; still has call supply, but no urgent breakout signal today.
  • 2,700 / 3,000: farther upside continuation zones; still have call interest but are more tail-pricing than immediate direction.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Base case

If spot continues to trade inside 2,400–2,500, the chain is likely to keep pinning around 2,420 / 2,440 / 2,500 while tenors get rebalanced. DVOL should stay constructive or range-bound rather than buckle lower in a straight line.

Upside case

If spot reclaims and holds above 2,500, near-dated vol-selling pressure could ease, and 2,600 call structures plus farther upside strikes will re-enter focus. Front-end put richness would likely compress first, while farther-dated skew may lag.

Downside case

If 2,400 gives way and 2,420 / 2,440 fail to hold, the market is more likely to search for liquidity and protection toward 2,300. In that case, 30OCT26 and lower-strike put demand could increase further, and DVOL would be more likely to repair higher.

What to monitor tomorrow

  • Whether spot can get back above 2,500 or remains pinned around 2,440 / 2,420.
  • Whether the 25SEP26 vs 30OCT26 flow split persists, especially near-dated vol selling versus far-dated vol buying.
  • Whether put protection continues to build at 2,400 and 2,300.
  • Whether DVOL continues to repair from the low-50s or simply stabilizes there.
  • Whether the near-spot call/put walls shift materially, especially around 2,500 and 2,400.

6. Trader Focus

  • Today’s structure is lower spot, no vol blowout, and segmented surface repricing.
  • 2,500 remains the key bullish/bearish divider; 2,420 / 2,440 is the strongest near-term battle zone.
  • Short-end vol is not cheap, and put wings remain rich, so sellers should not assume immediate mean reversion lower in IV.
  • Block/combo flow shows far-dated vol buying versus near-dated vol selling, which argues for maturity risk-splitting.
  • The weekly theme has not turned into trend confirmation; it has shifted from repair toward lower-end range retest.
  • If spot does not quickly reclaim 2,500, downside protection and skew pressure may continue to firm.

Interpretation

ETH did not break structure today; it continued to lower the center of gravity inside an intact monthly range. For options traders, the more important point is that short-dated vol has not lost its premium, but is instead being redistributed across maturities and strikes. The market is still waiting for a catalyst, and until that arrives, 2,400–2,500 should keep leading price discovery.

Observations

  • Watch for a reclaim of 2,500.
  • Watch whether 2,420 / 2,440 keep pinning spot.
  • Watch whether 30OCT26 put buying persists.
  • Watch whether 25SEP26 keeps acting as a vol supply / theta collection zone.
  • Watch whether DVOL continues repairing from the low-50s or simply stalls.
