ETH Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

  • ETH spot eased to 2,490.4, down about 0.86% on the day. Price remains above the monthly lower ATR trigger at 2,274.6 but below the upper trigger at 2,659.4, so the higher-timeframe regime is still range digestion rather than trend confirmation.
  • The options chain remains anchored around 2,500, with near-spot activity still the most active and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / 1–7D tenors still dominating incremental flow. But today’s net Greeks and block/combo prints show the market moving beyond simple 2,500 defense into Tenor bucket rollup rotation and risk redistribution.
  • The implied vol surface still slopes higher into the back end. Front-end ATM IV sits in the low-30s to mid-30s percent area and trends up into the 50s and 60s further out. Skew remains put-rich, so downside protection demand is still embedded.
  • DVOL held at 52.6%, still in a low historical percentile on a 1Y basis, but it slipped modestly from yesterday. That tells you vol is not expanding further; it is consolidating at elevated levels.
  • Over the rolling 24h block/combo window, net vega turned clearly positive, with short/intermediate-dated flow leaning more toward buy-vol. The desk is pricing path disagreement for the next few sessions.

ETH closed at 2,490.4, lower on the day, but still above the monthly lower ATR trigger at 2,274.6 and well below the upper trigger at 2,659.4. The monthly ATR framework still reads as a range regime, with today’s move looking like digestion after the prior bounce rather than an upside breakout or structural failure.

The 4h and 1d tails both settled around 2,490, which reinforces the message that higher-timeframe price action has not broken into a clean directional trend. With spot slipping only modestly from yesterday’s 2,513.9 and still positive week over week, the tape remains in range repair.

Implied vol surface

The surface remains upward sloping across expiries: front-end ATM IV is roughly in the low-30s percent area and rises toward the mid-50s and high-50s / low-60s in longer tenors. The back end, especially 26MAR27 and 25JUN27, still trades above the front end, so this is not a broad-based vol shock.

Wings remain pricey relative to ATM. Across the front and middle expiries, the put wing is consistently rich versus ATM, and the call wing is also elevated, but less than downside protection. The structure is more stable than disorderly: the front end has been repriced, but the curve has not blown out.

Skew remains put-rich across expiries. The important shift today is that the short end did not deteriorate further; rather than steepening aggressively, the curve looks more like it stabilized at a high level, with some localized re-rating. Protection demand is still present, but the urgency premium is not accelerating.

DVOL index regime

DVOL printed 52.6%, slightly lower than the prior session. The 1Y IV Rank / IV Percentile sits around 14 / 18, still in a low historical band, while the 3M read is closer to the middle of its range, around 44 / 56.

In plain terms, ETH vol is still above compressed levels, but it is not in an expansion phase here. Today’s modest decline in DVOL says spot weakness did not translate into fresh vol upside; vol is consolidating instead.

Options chain structure

Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

The options chain continues to center on 2,500, with the heaviest near-spot activity concentrated around 2,440, 2,460, 2,480, 2,500, 2,520, 2,540, 2,560, 2,580 and 2,600. 0DTE (expires same calendar day) remains heavily trafficked, so short-dated gamma and fast hedging still drive the tape intraday.

By expiration, 8SEP26 contributed the bulk of the day’s near-term turnover and positioning changes, followed by 11SEP26, 18SEP26 and 25SEP26. The 8–30D bucket remains the main battleground. Longer tenors like 25DEC26, 26MAR27 and 25JUN27 carry large open interest, but today’s flow there looks more like inventory transfer and rolling than aggressive fresh initiation.

At the strike level, 2,500 is the key center of gravity. It drew the most active call/put turnover and the densest Open Interest (OI) concentration, with meaningful distribution across multiple expiries. Above spot, 2,800, 3,000 and 3,100 still carry large call Open Interest (OI), but some front-end upside call lines saw reductions today, suggesting the chase higher is not building linearly. Below spot, 2,400, 2,200 and 2,100 continue to attract put demand, particularly for short/intermediate protection.

The 24h net Greeks shifted from a cleaner bullish vol profile into a more mixed tape, but the market still revolves around the front end. By expiry:

  • 25SEP26: net delta, vega and gamma were all sold, with strong theta collected. This remains the largest short/intermediate vol supply source.
  • 8SEP26: also stayed net short gamma and net theta collected, so 0DTE (expires same calendar day) is still the main time-value harvesting zone.
  • 11SEP26, 18SEP26 and 25DEC26 leaned toward vega buying / gamma buying, showing demand for short/intermediate path risk.
  • 25JUN27 and 30OCT26 skewed toward vega selling / gamma selling, more consistent with structural vol supply or hedging.

At strike level, 2,500 is the clearest net buy-gamma / buy-vega anchor, so the market is still actively hedging around that zone. 2,800 remains a clear net sell-vega / sell-gamma area, which keeps it as a vol supply zone above spot. 2,400 and 2,100 also showed meaningful buy-vol traces, so downside protection is still being maintained.

Net: this is not a clean directional book. It is a mix of front-end vol harvesting and short/intermediate vol demand. 2,500 remains the most important sensitivity point, but it is now more a center for risk redistribution than a simple support level.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the report snapshot at 00:00 UTC on Sep 8, 2026 (rolling window, not the calendar report day). Overall, net vega turned clearly positive and net gamma was positive as well, while net delta remained only slightly negative. That points to buy-vol behavior at the block/combo level.

Structurally, the tape was broad: call spreads, put spreads, call butterflies, iron butterflies, and calendar/diagonal calendars all mattered. This is not a single-theme flow. Block-only activity still had meaningful weight, as did put spreads and call spreads, so traders are expressing both directional view and Tenor bucket rollup/vol preference through structure.

By rough Tenor bucket rollup split, 7–30D vega was the main positive contributor, while 0–7D was more mixed and slightly more sell-vol leaning. That lines up with the listed-options tape: the very front end is used for crowding and hedging around 2,500, while the short/intermediate bucket is where traders are paying for vol and gamma.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

  • Spot slipped from 2,513.9 to 2,490.4, moving back below 2,500, but it still has not violated the monthly lower ATR trigger. The structure is intact.
  • The options chain evolved from simple 2,500 defense into a more explicit Tenor bucket rollup-rotation story. 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7D became even more prominent.
  • Net Greeks became more mixed versus yesterday’s cleaner bullish vol/gamma tone, although 2,500 still remains the strongest net buy-gamma zone.
  • The surface did not collapse or explode; instead, front-end and mid-curve pricing looked more like localized repricing.
  • DVOL slipped modestly, so yesterday’s vol-expansion impulse lost some momentum.
  • Block/combo flow shifted more clearly into net buy-vol, especially in the 7–30D bucket.

3. Multi-Day Context

Over the past week, ETH has been trading around the same core theme: range repair around 2,500. On Sep 3 it reclaimed 2,500, on Sep 4 and Sep 5 it slipped back and forth, and on Sep 6 it closed back above 2,500 at 2,513.9 before today’s move brought it slightly back below. The message is consistent: no stable directional breakout yet.

So the weekly theme has not changed. What has changed is that 2,500 is no longer just a support level; it is now the center of gamma crowding and Tenor bucket rollup rotation. In other words, the week’s core storyline has evolved from “range repair” into “risk redistribution inside the range.”

From a vol standpoint, DVOL still has not been compressed back into a low-vol regime, so path uncertainty remains priced. But it also has not accelerated higher, which keeps the market off the edge of a vol shock. That balance is why 2,500 continues to dominate both the options chain and the block/combo tape.

Today reinforced that weekly theme rather than breaking it. The center of gravity is still 2,500, but the market is now trading it as a dynamic vol center, not a static support.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • 2,500: core spot / options-chain / net-gamma pivot and the most likely pinning zone.
  • 2,400: first major downside defense area, with active short-dated put demand.
  • 2,200: deeper downside protection zone with meaningful put Open Interest (OI) and turnover.
  • 2,600: first upside obstacle, with 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7D calls still concentrated there.
  • 2,800: more important upside vol-supply zone; large call Open Interest (OI) remains, though some front-end upside call lines were reduced today.
  • 3,000 / 3,100: further upside structure levels with large Open Interest (OI), but limited fresh daily expansion.

On the monthly ATR map, spot remains between 2,274.6 and 2,659.4 and has only traversed about 24% of the monthly ATR. That implies ETH still has unfinished monthly range to trade; the market is redistributing risk inside the range, not completing a trend objective.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Scenario 1: Reclaim and hold above 2,500

If spot reclaims 2,500 and holds 2,520–2,560, short-end pinning pressure could ease and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) dominance might fade a bit. In that case, 2,600 and 2,650 become the next upside checkpoints.

Scenario 2: Continued chop below 2,500

If spot keeps churning below 2,500, the near-spot 2,440–2,480 zone could get even more crowded, and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / 1–7D gamma sensitivity would likely increase. In that case, 2,400 is the key downside level to watch.

Scenario 3: Lose 2,400

A break of 2,400 would force repricing of protection around 2,200, likely steepening skew again and lifting DVOL. In that scenario, 2,500 would remain relevant, but as a rebound and rebalancing center rather than a pin.

What to monitor

  • 0DTE (expires same calendar day) turnover and Open Interest (OI) changes around 2,440 / 2,460 / 2,480 / 2,500 / 2,520 / 2,560.
  • Whether 25SEP26 call Open Interest (OI) keeps bleeding at 2,800 / 3,000, which would determine whether upside resistance loosens.
  • Whether buy-vol in 18SEP26 and 25DEC26 continues spreading into the 2,600–2,800 band.
  • Whether DVOL turns higher again after today’s modest pullback.
  • Whether block/combo keeps printing positive vega, especially in the 7–30D bucket.

6. Trader Focus

  • 2,500 remains the absolute center of ETH options, but today it looks more like a risk-redistribution center than a simple support.
  • The front end is still crowded: 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7D are the battlegrounds.
  • The surface and DVOL did not make an explosive move, which argues for localized repricing inside a still-intact range.
  • Block/combo flow is clearly buy-vol biased, with 7–30D carrying the strongest signal.
  • For the next session, the most important question is whether 2,500 continues to pin, or whether 2,400 / 2,600 starts to take over as the active range edge.

Interpretation

Today reinforced the main story from the past week: ETH is still anchored by 2,500, but that anchor is now the market’s vol-pricing center rather than just a spot support line. The front end is harvesting time value, the short/intermediate bucket is where traders are paying for vol, DVOL is above the low-vol pocket but not expanding, and block/combo flow has turned net buy-vol. Taken together, that says the market is trading risk migration inside the range — not direction itself.

Observation

  • Watch whether 2,500 pins again.
  • Watch whether 2,400 protection starts to thin.
  • Watch whether 2,600–2,650 resistance loosens as front-end call Open Interest (OI) comes off.
  • Watch whether 25SEP26 selling pressure spreads to higher strikes.
  • Watch whether DVOL stops easing and turns higher again.
