BTC Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

BTC spot surged to the 80.9k area today, up about 5.8% on the day, with both the daily and 4h charts reclaiming the full EMA stack. Short-horizon structure moved from “repair incomplete” to “fully back above trend references.” Price is now pressing toward the 82.4k upper trigger, but it has not yet cleared it decisively, so the market is still expanding inside a strong regime rather than breaking out cleanly.

On the options side, 80k remains the key fulcrum, with both the Call wall and Put wall sitting there. Incremental positioning is now more visible in 81k, 82k, 85k, 86k and parts of the 90k area, showing rebuilding demand on the upside. Net Greeks flipped to net vega buying and net gamma buying, while rolling 24h Block/Combo flow also turned positive on vega and delta. The whole structure is in sync with the spot rebound.

DVOL recovered to 35.46%, continuing to repair, but it is still in a historically low regime. Overall, today was a structural improvement driven by spot first, vol catching up second, and listed options re-pricing the upper side again.

BTC spot closed near 80,878, up roughly 5.8% day over day and about 4.9% week over week. On both the daily and 4h resolutions, price is back above EMA20/50/100/200. The final 4h bar closed at 80.9k with noticeably heavier volume than most recent 4h bars, so this was not a thin bounce; it was active repricing.

Under the ATR framework, the latest close at 80,904.96 sits between the lower and upper triggers, but closer to the upper boundary. Trend is still neutral, and today’s range only covered about 44.8% of monthly ATR, which says the market has repaired into a stronger zone but has not yet fully occupied a higher-volatility regime.

Implied vol surface

The implied vol surface lifted across the board and kept a positive term slope. Front-end ATM is around 19%, while farther-out ATM sits in the 39%–42% area, so the back end is being marked higher more completely than the front. Wings also re-priced higher across multiple expiries; the 5P through 45P band remains materially elevated, and call wings also moved up, so this is a broad-based surface lift rather than a one-point spike.

Skew remains put-rich versus ATM, especially in the front and middle of the curve, which tells you downside protection is still being paid for. At the same time, call wings also lifted, so today’s move looks more like a combination of downside hedging and renewed two-way participation than a pure panic skew steepening.

DVOL index

DVOL rose to 35.46% from roughly 33.59% yesterday, confirming that the vol index is following spot’s repair. Cross-sectional regime is still low: around 3.9 IV Rank / 6.0 IV Percentile on the 1Y lookback, and about 14.5 / 18.0 on the 3M lookback. In other words, vol is recovering, but it is still nowhere near a stressed regime.

That makes today’s move look like trend-following vol repair rather than stress repricing. If DVOL keeps rising, it still needs spot follow-through above 82.4k to argue for a new expansion leg.

Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

80k remains the dominant anchor across the listed chain, with both Call and Put concentration centered there. 25SEP26 is still the core expiry, but today’s incremental position build extended more clearly into upside calls around 80k–86k and into the 8–30d bucket.

By Tenor bucket rollup, 1–7d remains the largest battlefield, yet the incremental flow is no longer just defensive put accumulation. 8–30d and 31–90d now show better-balanced call participation as well. In other words, risk is being spread across expiries rather than just piled into one front-end hedge.

The 24h net Greek profile flipped from net vega selling / net gamma selling to net vega buying / net gamma buying, with clearly positive net delta. 25SEP26 remains the main driver, but 26MAR27 also added meaningful positive vega and gamma, so both the near end and the farther end are leaning toward long-vol exposure.

By strike, the main buy-vega / buy-gamma nodes are 78k, 80k, 81k, 86k and 90k. There are still sell-side traces at 75k, 79k, 85k and 100k, so the upper side is not empty, but the important change is that short-dated gamma is no longer suppressing spot in the way it was before.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the report snapshot at 00:00 UTC on Sep 19 (rolling window, not the calendar report day) turned net positive on vega and delta. That is a clear reversal from the prior window’s vol-selling tone. Combo activity is still heavily concentrated in the very front end, but the previously heavier 7–30d and 30–90d vega selling has faded materially.

Block-only prints also show active call spreads and calendar/diagonal structures in the 8–30d and 31–90d buckets. That reads like rebuilding around the 80k–90k zone rather than suppressing vol.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

The biggest change is that spot and options structure both turned stronger at the same time. Yesterday was still a “repair, but unconfirmed” setup; today both the daily and 4h EMA stacks were reclaimed, and volume expanded with the move, which makes the rebound much more credible.

On the options chain, the prior session was more defensive and lower-strike protective. Today, the 80k-plus call build is much clearer, especially around 81k, 82k, 85k and 86k, with some participation further up the curve. Put defense around 75k–78k is still there, but it is no longer the only dominant theme.

Net Greeks also made an important turn. Yesterday’s vol-selling / gamma-selling posture flipped to vol buying and gamma buying, which reduces the short-dated drag on spot and improves the odds that any further spot extension can self-reinforce through gamma. Block/Combo flow supported the same shift.

3. Multi-Day Context

Over the past week, the dominant theme has been: the larger structure stayed intact, but short-horizon repair kept coming and going. Between Sep 11 and Sep 17, BTC repeatedly chopped around the 75k–78k zone. Daily structure was often acceptable, but 4h structure kept rolling over below the short- and medium-term EMAs, so the repair remained unconfirmed.

Today weakens that weekly “incomplete repair” theme materially. Spot is back above 80k, back above the full EMA stack on both daily and 4h, and the options complex has rotated from lower-strike defense toward upside repricing. Net Greeks and block/combo flow both turned constructive as well, so this session looks like confirmation rather than noise.

That said, I would not call it a full breakout yet. The 82.4k upper trigger has not been cleared, so the market is still operating at the edge of a strong regime rather than clearly into a new trend leg.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • 80,000: the core fulcrum; both Call wall and Put wall remain centered here.
  • 82,424: the monthly upper trigger; a decisive break above it would strengthen the trend case.
  • 74,638: the monthly lower trigger; a loss of this level would materially weaken the current repair.
  • 81,000 / 82,000 / 85,000 / 86,000: active upside zones where new call build and positive gamma buying are concentrated.
  • 75,000 / 78,000: the frontline downside defense zone; puts are still active here, but it looks more like hedging than panic.
  • 90,000: a farther-out reference level with activity, but not the immediate battlefield.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Scenario 1: Continuation higher

If BTC holds above 80k and pushes through 82.4k, the chain can continue to extend toward 85k–86k and possibly 90k. In that case, short-dated calls and long gamma would likely strengthen further. DVOL could keep rising, but still more as a follower of spot than as an independent stress signal.

Scenario 2: High-level consolidation

If spot grinds sideways between 80k and 82.4k, the market likely stays centered on the front end, with the 80k fulcrum acting as the main magnet. Short-dated gamma may keep the range tight, but vol does not necessarily need to accelerate further.

Scenario 3: Failed follow-through

If BTC slips back below 80k and the 4h structure weakens first, today’s vol repair would lose momentum. In that case, renewed put demand around 75k–78k would be the key thing to watch, and net Greeks could rotate back toward vega and gamma selling.

Monitoring priorities

  • Whether 80k continues to act as the magnet and balance point;
  • Whether 82.4k gets taken out and held;
  • Whether call build continues in 81k–86k;
  • Whether net Greeks stay on the buy-vega / buy-gamma side;
  • Whether DVOL keeps rising without moving into a stressed regime;
  • Whether Block/Combo flow keeps favoring call spreads, calendars and diagonals.

6. Trader Focus

  • Today was not just a bounce; it was a synchronized repair across spot, vol, net Greeks and block/combo flow.
  • 80k remains the anchor, but 81k–86k is now clearly drawing more incremental upside pricing.
  • Short-dated gamma and vega have shifted from suppressing spot to supporting it, improving the odds of directional extension.
  • DVOL is recovering, but still in a low-vol repair phase rather than a stress spike.
  • 82.4k is the key confirmation line for the next session; without it, the market can still spend time consolidating at the top of the range.
