BTC Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

BTC spot closed near 75.6k today, down about 3.3% on the day and still weaker week over week. Price slipped back below the daily and 4h moving-average stacks, so the short-horizon repair from yesterday was interrupted and the market has returned to a softer consolidation regime. On the options side, the 75k put wall and 80k call wall remain intact, keeping spot inside the core trading band while short-dated positioning continues to reprice around 75k–80k.
On the vol side, front-end IV and put skew both firmed, while DVOL ticked higher but remains in a historically low regime. Block and combo flow over the rolling 24h window shifted from net vol supply to net vega buying and net gamma buying, which is a more defensive posture.

Spot vs DVOL (4H)

Click to solo · double-click to hide/show

Spot printed 75.6k, lower again from the prior session. BTC is back below the daily EMA50/100/200, while the 4h frame sits below EMA20/50/100 and only remains above EMA200. That combination argues the brief short-term repair has failed, though the broader structure has not yet turned into a full trend break.

The monthly ATR swing framework remains neutral. Today’s 7.3k monthly trading range is only about 44% of ATR, so price is still operating in the lower-middle part of the expected swing rather than in a compressed or exhausted state. Yesterday’s close near 75.7k was already pressing the lower trigger area around 74.6k, while the upper trigger near 82.4k remains well overhead.

Implied vol surface

BTC’s implied vol surface moved higher today, but not as a uniform parallel shift. Front-end ATM IV is roughly in the mid-30s to around 40%, with the front of the curve lifting faster than the back. In other words, the term structure is a bit more front-loaded now, with shorter expiries priced richer than longer ones.

The 1–7d and 8–30d buckets remain the most responsive, with the front end reacting more quickly to the spot drawdown and the 8–30d area retaining a more stable risk premium. Longer-dated tenors also lifted, but the steepest move is still at the front of the curve. That reads as front-end vol repair rather than a uniform regime reset.

Skew remains put-rich. Downside wings are still priced above calls, and the short-end / mid-curve steepened further. Calls firmed too, but not as much as puts, which means the market is still paying more for downside protection than for upside tail exposure.

DVOL index

DVOL is now around 39.0%, modestly higher than yesterday. In the 1Y lookback it is still in a historically low band, while on a 3M lookback it sits in the low-to-mid area. That tells us this is still not a high-vol regime, but vol has stopped grinding lower.

Against the spot pullback, the DVOL move looks reactive rather than leading. It is the classic pattern of protection demand returning as spot weakens. If BTC keeps leaning on 75k, DVOL can stay bid; if spot reclaims 77k cleanly, DVOL should have room to ease back.

Options chain structure

Options chain · Open interest (calls & puts)
Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

Open interest and trading remain concentrated in the front and 8–30d buckets, with 25SEP carrying the largest share and 30OCT / 25DEC still substantial. Today’s incremental activity is centered around 75k–80k, with 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7d flow rotating more quickly than before. That suggests traders are repricing the neighborhood around spot rather than positioning for a clean breakout.

The 75k strike remains the key near-spot hub. Put-side open interest and turnover are both heavy there, and both 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and weekly flow are repeatedly cycling through that level. Above spot, 80k continues to show the main call-side concentration and a visible pressure zone.

By expiry, the short-dated and 25SEP buckets dominate, so this is not a single-expiry trade. It is a reworking of weekly and monthly positioning simultaneously within the 75k–80k band, which usually means front-end gamma is being actively managed around spot while longer tenors carry the hedges.

Net greeks were more defensive today, but not in a clean one-way fashion. The front-end net delta skewed more negative, which says traders were more willing to absorb downside risk after the spot pullback. At the same time, some of the very short dated and weekly structures still bought gamma and vega, so protection demand did not disappear.

By expiry, 16SEP / 17SEP / 18SEP still showed net gamma buying and net vega buying, which is consistent with defense around a key spot zone. But 25SEP, 30OCT and 2OCT carried more persistent gamma and vega supply, so the mid-short part of the curve is still being offered.

By strike, 79k stood out as one of the strongest net gamma buy levels, with 77k also tilting to the buy side. In contrast, 80k, 84k and 100k leaned to net gamma and net vega selling. The 78k–80k band is therefore a clear mix of upper supply and near-spot hedging.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the report snapshot at 00:00 UTC on Sep 16, 2026 (rolling window, not the calendar report day) shifted from yesterday’s net vol supply toward net vega buying and net gamma buying, with net delta also turning positive. That is a meaningful change in tone: large trades are no longer primarily monetizing vol, but instead are structuring for protection and spot-aware dispersion.

The mix remains block-heavy, but call spreads, call calendars, put calendars, strangles and diagonals are all active, which tells us this was not a pure directional session. The 79k area showed the strongest net gamma buying, especially in the 18SEP 79k call, while 80k, 84k and 100k continued to show the supply side of the market.

Cross-checking against the listed-options chain, the 24h block/combo tape is consistent with the short-dated rotation we are seeing in the chain: when spot sits inside 75k–80k, institutional flow tends to rebuild front-end structures rather than taking a simple one-way breakout bet.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

Yesterday’s theme was “spot repair, reclaimed moving averages, and better short-horizon structure.” Today reversed that: spot slipped back, the daily and 4h chart weakened again, and the short-term repair was interrupted. BTC moved from around 78.1k back to 75.6k, re-pressing the 75k defense zone.

On vol, yesterday was more of a compressed / repaired front-end setup; today front-end IV and put skew both rose, which means downside protection is being repriced again. DVOL also lifted from a lower band, in sync with the weaker spot tape.

In block/combo flow, the prior day’s more obvious net vol-selling / net gamma-selling tone faded, replaced by net vega buying and net gamma buying. In short: yesterday was “repair + vol compression,” while today was “spot weakness + vol re-bid.”

3. Multi-Day Context

Over the past week, BTC has been trading a 77k–78k core zone without a sustained upside break, while also avoiding a deeper loss of higher-time-frame support. From Sep 11 to Sep 13, short-horizon structure was soft; Sep 14 produced a meaningful repair; today’s pullback shows that repair was not enough to confirm a new bullish regime.

Today weakens the week’s “repair after weakness” narrative. Spot is back in the lower half of the range, and vol is starting to edge higher again. So the week still reads as range-dominated, but today shifts the focus back from repair to defense.

The broader weekly map is still defined by 75k below and 80k above. Those two strikes have not changed, which means the market has not yet created a new dominant range.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • 75k: the key near-spot support and the main put wall; spot is back against it.
  • 74.6k: the lower monthly ATR trigger area; loss of this zone would open a more trend-like downside move.
  • 77k–78k: the core battleground and the area where short-dated gamma is most likely to be repriced.
  • 80k: the main call wall and first resistance overhead.
  • 82.4k: the upper monthly ATR trigger; reclaiming this area would materially improve structure.

The key risk is less about a single level and more about whether 75k can continue to act as a defense zone. If it fails, front-end put skew and DVOL are likely to extend higher. If BTC recovers above 77k quickly, much of today’s defensive pricing can come back out.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Base case

If spot continues to trade in the 75k–77k area, front-end IV should stay bid, put skew should remain steep, and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / weekly activity should remain elevated. That would keep the market in a range-repricing mode rather than a trend-confirmation mode.

Upside case

If spot reclaims 77.5k–78k and the 4h chart takes back EMA20/50, near-term protection demand should ease. DVOL could give back some of today’s lift, and 79k may remain the key buy-gamma magnet overhead.

Downside case

If 75k breaks decisively, especially under 74.6k, front-end put wings and DVOL should continue higher. In that case, the 75k put wall would flip from support to a repricing anchor, and lower strikes such as 72k and 70k would matter more.

Monitoring points for next session

  • Whether spot can defend 75k and reclaim 77k.
  • Whether 4h EMA20/50 recover or continue to cap the rebound.
  • Whether 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7d flow stay concentrated in 75k, 76k, 77k and 79k.
  • Whether 25SEP continues to dominate the short-to-mid curve.
  • Whether DVOL keeps climbing from 39% or rolls back lower if spot stabilizes.
  • Whether 79k remains a net gamma buy zone while 80k keeps showing supply.

6. Trader Focus

  • Today is not a clean downside-break confirmation; it is more like a failed short-term repair followed by range repricing.
  • Front-end IV, put skew and DVOL all firmed, so protection demand has returned.
  • The 75k put wall and 80k call wall are still the defining strikes.
  • Block/combo flow flipped from net vol selling to net vol buying, suggesting larger players are preparing for wider movement.
  • The next session’s main question is simple: can 75k hold, and can 77k–78k be reclaimed?
