BTC Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

BTC’s spot structure remains soft but intact at the higher time-frame level: spot is around 77.2k, the daily chart still sits above EMA20/50/100/200, while the 4h frame has rolled back below EMA20/50/100 and is only holding above EMA200, so the short-horizon repair lost momentum again. On the ATR framework, price is still inside the monthly range and well below the upper trigger, which keeps today in a range-digestion regime rather than a breakout regime.
Volatility eased in absolute terms, with DVOL down to 36.75%, but the front end of the surface did not cheapen materially and put wings remain richer than calls. That keeps downside insurance in the tape even as headline DVOL falls.
Positioning and flow remain centered in the nearest expiries, especially 25SEP26 and 0DTE (expires same calendar day). Net Greeks and the last 24h block/combo tape both lean toward vega selling and gamma selling, with only localized front-end gamma buying as a counterweight.

Spot finished near 77.2k, modestly higher on the day but still down about 3.2% on the week, so today’s bounce reads more as technical repair than trend repair. The daily chart remains above the full EMA stack, which keeps the medium-term structure constructive; however, the 4h chart has slipped back below EMA20/50/100 and is barely holding above EMA200, showing that short-term momentum is weaker than the broader trend.
The ATR setup is neutral. Price has only traveled about 37.6% of the monthly ATR range, so it is still positioned in the lower-middle part of that band. The lower trigger near 74.6k remains the immediate downside line, while the upper trigger around 82.4k is the first threshold that would meaningfully reopen the upside.

Implied vol surface

The term structure remains positively sloped front to back: ATM is roughly in the high-teens near the front and lifts toward the 40% area in the back end, so the back of the curve still trades richer volatility than the front. The very front expiries, especially 12SEP26 and 13SEP26, moved higher across both ATM and the wings, which indicates a fresh repricing of short-dated volatility rather than a simple directional fade.
Skew remains put-rich. Put wings are still consistently more expensive than call wings, with the most visible richness in the 5P to 30P region, and the short- to medium-dated skew steepened further. That keeps downside protection demand clearly embedded in the curve.
This is not a broad IV spike; it is a combination of firmer short-dated vol and sticky downside skew, which is a more defensive pricing regime.

DVOL index

DVOL is 36.75%, down sharply from 40.24% yesterday, but still above the very-low short-term pocket. On a 1Y basis, IV Rank is about 6.8 and IV Percentile about 15.2; on a 3M basis, Rank is about 19.7 and Percentile about 33.2. In other words, the index remains in a historically low to low-mid regime.
So while headline volatility has backed off, this is best read as a pullback from a prior spike rather than the start of a new higher-vol regime. The surface still says short-dated risk is being paid for.

Options chain structure

Options chain · Open interest (calls & puts)
Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

The options chain remains anchored in the nearest listed expiries. 25SEP26 is still the dominant open-interest hub, and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) plus 1–7 day activity is very active, which keeps the market’s center of gravity around spot and the front end. The 75k–85k strike band, especially 78k, 80k, 81k, 83k and 85k, remains the main battleground.
By expiry, 25SEP26 carries the largest Open Interest (OI) and the largest 24h changes, while 18SEP26 and 12SEP26 are doing more of the short-horizon rolling and hedging. 30OCT26 and 25DEC26 matter, but they have not displaced the near-dated structure.
For the desk, that means front-end gamma remains the key exposure, and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / 1–7d flow will keep amplifying price action around the spot neighborhood.

Net Greeks show a clear net negative delta, net negative gamma, and net negative vega posture overall. The positioning is concentrated in 12SEP26, 18SEP26, 25SEP26, 27NOV26 and 25DEC26, with 27NOV26, 25DEC26, 30OCT26 and 18SEP26 mostly leaning toward vega selling and gamma selling, while 12SEP26 is the main exception with net gamma and vega buying in the very front end.
By strike, 83k, 85k, 81k, 76k and 70k stand out. The 83k and 85k areas lean toward vol selling and gamma selling; 81k is more mixed but still shows notable vega/gamma rotation; 78k and 82k show stronger hedging and buying interest.
The takeaway is that the book is not one-directional, but the farther-out book is clearly selling vega and gamma, while the front end remains more two-sided and hedging-heavy.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the report snapshot at 00:00 UTC are also net vega-sold and net gamma-sold, with net delta negative, matching the Greeks read-through. The structure is still close to half block-only prints, but iron condors, strangles, straddles, spreads, and calendar/diagonal structures were all active, so this was a structured-flow tape rather than a pure directional tape.
The busiest area remains 25SEP26, 18SEP26 and 12SEP26, with the 70k–85k zone seeing repeated two-way activity. Several larger prints show sellers monetizing premium in the near-month upper strikes, while front-end structures continue to hedge gamma locally.
Interpretation: large-trade flow shifted from building long vol to monetizing vol and distributing risk via structured trades. That is consistent with the lower DVOL print but firmer short-dated surface.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

Spot slid back from the 78.3k area to around 77.2k, so the daily structure held but the 4h repair weakened again. More importantly, DVOL fell from 40.24% to 36.75%, while the front-end surface and put skew did not meaningfully soften, so lower headline vol did not translate into a cleaner risk-on signal.
In the chain, 25SEP26 remains the central hub, but there was some easing in call Open Interest (OI) at 82k, 84k and 100k, making the upper band look more like a rebalancing than a fresh upside build.
Net Greeks and Block/Combo flow both shifted away from the prior session’s more supportive gamma/vega posture toward a clearer sell-gamma, sell-vega mix. In that sense, yesterday’s support got weaker rather than stronger.

3. Multi-Day Context

Over the past week, the core theme has stayed the same: BTC is still a market where the medium-term structure is intact, short-term momentum is fading, and near-dated volatility pricing matters more than longer-dated exposure. From Sep 4 through Sep 9, spot repeatedly held above 78k–80k but could not build durable upside follow-through; by Sep 10 it had already slipped toward 76.5k, and today’s bounce was not enough to repair the 4h structure.
On the options side, the week has remained very concentrated in the front end, especially 25SEP26 and 0DTE (expires same calendar day), so risk is still being managed around spot rather than being pushed out the curve. Skew has kept a downside premium throughout, which tells you defensive demand has been persistent.
Today reinforced the weekly theme of near-dated dominance, soft short-term action, and sticky downside skew. It weakened the more supportive gamma-backed tone from yesterday, so the week still looks like digestion rather than reacceleration.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • First overhead resistance: 78.0k / 78.5k, then 80.0k / 80.5k. This is also a dense near-term gamma zone, so pinning risk stays elevated.
  • More important upside threshold: the ATR upper trigger around 82.4k. A clean reclaim there would be needed to upgrade today’s bounce into something more durable.
  • Initial downside support: around 75.0k, which sits close to the put wall and remains the most sensitive defense zone.
  • Downside trigger: roughly 74.6k, the ATR lower trigger. A break there would materially weaken the short-horizon structure and likely force the curve to reprice downside protection.
  • Deeper swing references: 72k, 70k and 68k, where put concentration and defense are more pronounced.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Base case

If spot keeps consolidating between 76.5k and 78.5k, near-month gamma concentration should continue to dominate tape behavior, and 25SEP26 plus 0DTE (expires same calendar day) pinning effects should stay strong. DVOL can hold steady or drift lower, but the short-dated skew profile will remain sensitive to any break attempt.

Upside case

If price reclaims 78.5k and pushes toward 80k/80.5k, watch whether call Open Interest (OI) re-accumulates at 80k, 81k and 83k, and whether the 4h chart can recover EMA20/50/100. If Block/Combo vega selling also eases, the move has a better chance of sticking.

Downside case

If 75k gives way, the market is more likely to press toward the 74.6k ATR lower trigger, and short-dated put wings plus near-month skew should steepen again. In that case, 18SEP26 / 25SEP26 hedging flow may pick up, and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) turnover could amplify realized volatility.

What to watch tomorrow

  • Whether 77.0k–78.5k continues to define the spot trading box.
  • Whether 25SEP26 keeps concentrating Open Interest (OI) around 76k / 78k / 80k / 82k / 85k.
  • Whether the 4h EMA20/50/100 remains overhead supply.
  • Whether DVOL stabilizes or keeps drifting toward 35%.
  • Whether Block/Combo stays net vega-sold, especially in the front end.

6. Trader Focus

  • Today was more about a failed short-term repair and a defensive vol structure than about directional breakout.
  • The options chain remains centered on near-dated expiries and strikes around spot, so front-end gamma still matters.
  • Net Greeks and large-flow prints both point to vega selling and gamma selling, but there is still localized front-end hedging demand.
  • Lower DVOL does not mean risk is gone; the key is whether short-dated skew and the front-end surface keep hardening.
  • For the next session, the most important thing is not the absolute price level, but how the 75k–80k zone trades and whether the 4h structure can repair again.
