BTC Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

  • BTC spot finished near 76.5k today, down about 2.2% on the day and roughly 5.9% on the week. The price structure weakened further, with both the 4h and daily EMA stacks turning softer.
  • The ATR framework remains neutral, but price is now sitting in the lower half of the monthly range and well below the upper trigger. The tape looks more like a failed rebound followed by re-pricing than a clean trend break.
  • The options book still anchors around 25SEP26, but activity around the 76k–80k near-spot band broadened. Near-dated Gamma and vega are no longer as one-way supportive as yesterday.
  • The vol surface still shows persistent put-wing richness; skew remains the main message. DVOL edged higher, though it remains in a historically subdued zone.
  • Block/combo flow over the last 24h rolled from yesterday’s clearly bullish vol-buying posture into a more balanced mix, suggesting traders are leaning more on Tenor bucket rollup and wing relative value than on outright directional follow-through.

Spot and volatility regime

Spot vs DVOL (4H)

Click to solo · double-click to hide/show

BTC spot is trading near 76.5k, extending the prior day’s decline. The 4h frame is now below EMA20/50/100 and only still above EMA200; the daily chart has also slipped back under EMA20, while remaining above EMA50/100/200. That keeps the medium-term trend intact, but short-horizon momentum clearly weaker.

The monthly ATR framework is still neutral. Price sits in the lower half of the monthly range, with the upper trigger at 82.4k still distant and the lower trigger at 74.6k not far away. Today’s close is below the upper trigger but above the lower trigger, which places the market in a neutral-but-soft zone.

Recent 1d and 4h bars fit a “failed rebound, renewed probing lower” pattern. Spot has not entered panic, but it also has not reclaimed any meaningful momentum.

Implied vol surface

ATM term structure still slopes gently higher from front to back, but the front end did not keep the sharp lift seen in the prior session. ATM vols are roughly in the 33–41% area, while back-end vols around 25DEC26/26MAR27/25JUN27 remain resilient in the low-40s. The curve therefore stays mildly upward-sloping, with sticky back-end pricing rather than a full front-end blowout.

Skew remains the more important signal. Put wings continue to trade rich versus ATM across the curve, and the short/intermediate tenors especially keep a visible downside premium. The 5P/10P/15P lines remain meaningfully above the middle of the surface, while broader downside wings also stay elevated. This is not just a front-end bid; downside protection is still being priced across multiple maturities.

Net: the surface looks like a setup with higher front-end sensitivity and sticky back-end IV, not an across-the-board fear repricing. Downside hedging demand is still embedded.

DVOL index

DVOL is around 40.24%, up modestly on the day. On the 1Y lookback, IV Rank / IV Percentile remain low, roughly Rank 13 and Percentile 39, so the index is still historically subdued. On the 3M lookback, the regime is firmer, around Rank 43 and Percentile 75, which says the recent vol repair has been faster than the one-year backdrop.

So DVOL is not flashing panic, but it is steadily lifting from a depressed band, with short/intermediate vols repairing faster than the long-run regime.

Options chain structure

Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

Total listed-options Open Interest (OI) remains concentrated in the 8–30d and 31–90d buckets, with 25SEP26 still the key anchor. The front end, especially 0DTE (expires same calendar day) and 1–7d, remains active rather than disappearing, but today’s flow is broader across nearby expiries instead of being overly concentrated in the shortest Tenor bucket rollup.

The most important near-spot strikes are clustered around 76k, 77k, 78k, 79k and 80k:

  • 78k is still the main strike nexus, with heavy two-way activity across delta, gamma and vega.
  • 76k and 77k show more call/put overlap, which means any further spot drift can quickly trigger hedging resets.
  • 80k, 81k and 82k still carry thick call supply, though today’s incremental activity was more spread across expiries rather than pure upside chase.

By expiry, 25SEP26 remains the central spine, but 12SEP26, 18SEP26 and 30OCT26 were all active enough to matter. That usually points to pinning, short gamma hedging and cross-Tenor bucket rollup roll behavior rather than a simple one-way expression.

Net Greeks are still mixed overall, but the key shift today is that near-dated risk is no longer one-way supportive. By expiry, 25SEP26 remains the biggest Open Interest (OI) and flow hub, but its net delta, gamma and vega all lean toward supply today. In other words, the market is using that expiry more as a source of vol and gamma than as a source of chase.

The shorter 12SEP26, 18SEP26 and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) pockets stayed busy, with both sides active, especially around 78k and 76k. Meanwhile, 30OCT26, 27NOV26 and farther out continue to absorb some vega and gamma buying, which keeps the far side from fully following the short end lower.

By strike:

  • 78k is the main delta/gamma nexus and the densest two-way battleground.
  • 76k, 77k and 79k show fast turnover in Greek exposure, so if spot drifts again, short-dated hedging can amplify quickly.
  • 84k, 85k and 90k remain areas of upside optionality, but they are more of a longer-dated reserve than an immediate chase zone.

Trading read: short-dated gamma is no longer purely supportive; it is more a high-density rebalancing zone centered around 78k. A loss of 76k would likely worsen downside sensitivity quickly, while a recovery back above 78k would likely revive near-dated call-side reactivity.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the report snapshot at 00:00 UTC on Sep 11 (rolling window, not the calendar report day).

Over the last 24h, block/combo flow cooled from the prior day’s more aggressive vol-buying, gamma-positive profile into a more balanced mix. Net vega is still slightly positive, but far below yesterday’s stronger reading, and net gamma also came down, which says traders are no longer pressing short-dated continuation with the same conviction.

Structure-wise, block-only still dominates, but calendars, diagonals, straddles and strangles account for a meaningful share of the mix. That points to Tenor bucket rollup and wing relative value rather than simple directional initiation:

  • the 7–30d bucket looks more clearly sold;
  • 0–7d still saw buying, but not a one-way impulse;
  • 31–90d and farther out more often served as offsetting or absorbent risk.

Cross-checked against the listed-options chain, block/combo flow does not support a “fresh upside chase” narrative. It reads more like Tenor bucket rollup rebalancing around the 76k–80k zone, with short-end risk being sold and longer-dated structures still carrying the other side.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

  • Spot fell from about 78.3k to 76.5k, extending the decline and weakening the short-term price structure.
  • Both the daily and 4h charts slipped back below EMA20, so the prior rebound failed to extend.
  • The ATR regime stayed neutral, but price moved deeper into the lower half of the monthly range and closer to the lower trigger.
  • The options chain still centers on 25SEP26, but the near-spot 78k–80k band saw more distributed activity than yesterday.
  • Net greeks shifted from a more long-Gamma / long-vega tone into a mixed regime, with 25SEP26 particularly leaning toward vol and gamma supply.
  • The vol surface did not spike, but put-wing richness persisted, making skew more important than the ATM move.
  • Block/combo prints cooled materially from the prior day’s stronger vol/gamma bid, signaling less short-end aggressiveness.

3. Multi-Day Context

The dominant weekly backdrop over the past several sessions has been:

  1. the medium-term structure remained intact;
  2. short-term momentum kept fading;
  3. the book repeatedly rebalanced around 78k–80k and 25SEP26.

Today weakens the “short-term repair still alive” version of that theme. Earlier in the week, the daily chart still held above the full EMA stack and 4h weakness was limited; today both the daily and 4h structures softened, which means the earlier rebound no longer carries trend-like follow-through.

In sequence:

  • Sep 6 through Sep 8 looked more like high-level consolidation;
  • Sep 9 showed more obvious short-term momentum loss;
  • today confirms the near-term move is not yet self-healing.

On the options side, the week has consistently revolved around 25SEP26 and the near-spot strike band. Today did not change that center; it changed the direction of the center — from long gamma / long vega support to more cautious vol selling and Tenor bucket rollup rebalancing. So the weekly theme is not broken, but today clearly reinforces the “short-dated cooling, far-end still supported” version of it.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • First support: around 76k. This is now close to spot, and the 76k put / 78k call hedging density is high.
  • Secondary support: 74.6k, near the monthly ATR lower trigger. A test there would expose the low end of the monthly range more clearly.
  • Core pivot: 78k. This remains the key near-spot hedging and pinning area.
  • Upside resistance: 80k, 82k and 84k. 80k is the immediate call-wall zone; 82k and 84k are the next recovery hurdles.
  • Higher upside map: 90k. Not the immediate battlefield, but still part of the spaced-out longer-dated call supply.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Scenario 1: 76k holds and 78k is reclaimed

If spot stabilizes above 76k and can move back above 78k, near-dated call-side activity should revive, and 0DTE (expires same calendar day) / 1–7d Gamma hedging could become active again. The key question would be whether 78k reclaims magnet status and whether 80k starts capping flows again.

Scenario 2: Spot drifts toward 74.6k

If 76k gives way and the market moves toward 74.6k, downside put demand and hedging flow should intensify, and skew is likely to steepen further. In that case, 25SEP26 could continue to show vol supply, while spot itself enters a more obvious downside acceleration phase.

Scenario 3: Range trade between 76k and 80k

If price remains trapped in the 76k–80k band, 78k is likely to keep acting as the pin zone, with 0DTE (expires same calendar day), 12SEP26 and 18SEP26 hedging/rolling especially active. In that case, avoid over-reading direction; relative value and skew become more important than outright delta bets.

What to monitor

  • Whether 76k is defended;
  • whether 78k reasserts itself as the center of gravity;
  • whether 80k resumes acting as call-wall resistance;
  • whether 25SEP26 stays the main net vol / gamma supply expiry;
  • whether DVOL keeps edging up from the low historical band or simply follows spot passively.

6. Trader Focus

  • Spot is weaker than yesterday, and both the daily and 4h charts have slipped under EMA20, which lines up with softer short-end options structure.
  • The options chain still trades around 25SEP26 and the 78k–80k band; short-dated gamma risk remains high, but the directional skew is less clean.
  • Skew is the clearest signal today: put wings remain rich, so defense is still priced.
  • Block/combo flow has cooled from yesterday’s more aggressive posture, favoring Tenor bucket rollup and wing relative value over outright chase.
  • The key question for the next session is whether 76k holds and whether 78k can still act as the near-spot balance point.
