BTC Options Market Daily Report

Executive Summary

  • BTC spot is around 79.1k, down about 1.6% on the day. The daily chart still holds above EMA20/50/100/200, but the 4h chart has slipped below EMA20 while remaining above EMA50/100/200, so the medium-term trend is intact but short-horizon momentum has softened.
  • The monthly ATR framework remains neutral; price is still in the upper-middle of the monthly range and well below the upper trigger. This is more consistent with a high-level consolidation pullback than a trend break.
  • The implied vol surface still carries a normal upward-sloping term structure. Front-end ATM IV is clearly cheaper than the back end, while put skew remains rich versus calls.
  • DVOL is about 38.8, modestly lower than yesterday, but still in a historically low band on the 1Y lookback and a low-to-mid band on the 3M lookback. Vol is not stressed, but it is no longer compressing aggressively.
  • 24h block/combo flow flipped back to net vega buying while net gamma remains negative. The most active rolling and structure-changing flow still centers around 81k, with front-end call calendars and related diagonals/spreads dominating.

BTC spot continued to pull back from elevated levels and settled around 79.1k, down roughly 1.6% on the day. The daily chart remains above the full EMA20/50/100/200 stack, so the broader trend has not been broken; however, the 4h frame moved back below EMA20, which tells you the nearest layer of momentum support has started to soften.

On the monthly ATR framework, price is still in the upper-middle part of the range, above the lower trigger and still below the upper trigger. The trend reading remains neutral. In practical terms, this still looks like a consolidation pullback inside a high-level range rather than a structural failure.

Implied vol surface

The surface still shows a normal upward-sloping term structure. Front-end ATM IV sits roughly in the low-20s to low-40s, while the back end — 25DEC26, 26MAR27, and 25JUN27 — remains in the low-40s to mid-40s, so the longer-dated vol floor is still materially above the front end. Front-end IV eased, but the back end did not reprice down nearly as much, so the surface looks more like front-end cooling with a sticky long-end than a broad revaluation higher.

Skew remains put-rich versus calls. The 5P/10P/15P wings still carry a clear premium over ATM, meaning downside protection has not gone away. The short-dated part of the curve is where skew is moving the most, which suggests the market is still prioritizing near-term path and tail risk.

DVOL index

DVOL is around 38.8, lower than the prior session, but still above the level seen a week ago. On a 1Y lookback, it remains in a historically low band, with Rank around 10 and Percentile around 30. On a 3M lookback, it is in the low-to-mid zone, with Rank around 34 and Percentile around 60.

That is not a stress regime, but it is also no longer a clean low-vol compression story. The index has stabilized after a low-vol stretch, which fits the day’s spot pullback and front-end repricing.

Options chain structure

Expiration

Tap the dots: Expiration · Strike · Tenor

Positioning and trading in the options chain remain heavily front-end centered, especially in the 1–7d and 8–30d buckets. 25SEP26 is still the dominant inventory anchor, while 11SEP26 and 9SEP26 picked up in activity meaningfully. 0DTE (expires same calendar day) remains active as well, so near-dated hedging and rolling continue to dominate usage.

At the strike level, 81k is the clearest short-dated center. 80k, 82k, 83k and 79k continue to form the main battleground, while the 75k put wall remains heavy and the 81k/82k call supply has not disappeared. There is no single new anchor replacing the old ones; rather, the market is still rebalancing around the 80k area.

24h net Greeks show a flip back to net vega buying, while net gamma remains sold. In other words, the market paid up for vol again, but the dealer side is still absorbing gamma overall. By expiry, 11SEP26 was the strongest vega-buy pocket, while 18SEP26, 25SEP26 and 27NOV26 remained more vega-sell / gamma-sell oriented. 30OCT26 skewed more to the buy side.

At the strike level, 81k is the strongest positive-vega center. 80k, 82k, 83k and 79k remain the main cross-currents. The 81k area also carries the largest positive delta and vega contribution, while gamma remains structurally more complicated there, which is consistent with short-dated pricing and hedging concentration.

Tap the dots: Block trades · Combo trades

Block and combo prints in the 24 hours through the Sep 8 00:00 UTC snapshot leaned back toward net vega buying, with net delta also shifting modestly long, while net gamma stayed negative. That means larger prints were more willing to pay for volatility again, even though the dealer posture still carries gamma.

The structure mix is still dominated by block_only, but calendars, diagonals and spreads make up a large share of the combo footprint. The headline remains the 81k call calendar spread between 11SEP26 and 9SEP26, alongside a dense set of diagonals and inter-month spreads across 18SEP26, 25SEP26 and 30OCT26. This is clearly a Tenor bucket rollup-rotation tape rather than simple outright speculation.

The activity remains centered around 81k, 80k and 82k. Front-end 25SEP26 and 11SEP26 call-side activity is the most visible, while 25SEP26 put-side flow also stays relevant. Further out, 25DEC26, 30OCT26 and 26MAR27 are still being used mainly as structured and term-rotation expressions.

2. What Changed vs Prior Session(s)

  • Spot pulled back from around 80.3k to the 79.1k area, moving from a firm high-level hold to a mild retracement.
  • The 4h chart moved from comfortably above EMA20 to below EMA20, although it still holds above EMA50/100/200. That means the first layer of short-term support has started to give way.
  • The ATR framework did not change; it remains neutral. But price shifted from the upper part of the range to a slightly softer high-range posture.
  • Front-end activity in 9SEP26/11SEP26/18SEP26 remained strong, so near-dated hedging and rolling did not slow down.
  • 24h net Greeks flipped from net vega selling and gamma selling to net vega buying while gamma stayed negative.
  • DVOL eased slightly, but it is still above last week’s level, so volatility is not re-compressing aggressively.

3. Multi-Day Context

Over the last week, the dominant theme has been BTC holding a high-level range, with the daily structure intact and the short horizon oscillating between repair and cooling. Today’s pullback does not break that narrative; it reinforces the idea of high-level consolidation and near-dated repricing.

The recent progression looks like this:

  • Sep 3 to Sep 5: spot recovered and held above the full EMA stack, which reflected repair.
  • Sep 6: the structure was still intact, but short-horizon follow-through was already fading.
  • Today: the short horizon weakened further as price slipped back below EMA20 on the 4h chart.

Options behavior over the week has been equally consistent:

  • positioning and flow stayed centered around 80k;
  • the 75k put wall and the 81k/82k call wall logic kept reappearing;
  • 25SEP26 remains the inventory hub, while 9SEP26 and 11SEP26 are now the most active tactical tenors.

So today reinforced the weekly theme rather than reversing it: the market is still repricing Tenor bucket rollup and skew around 80k, but now it is doing so with a slightly richer short-end vol bid than yesterday.

4. Key Levels and Risk Zones

  • First upside levels to watch: 81k, 82k, 83k. 81k is the key near-dated center, while 82k/83k remain the main call-supply and short-term resistance zone.
  • First downside levels to watch: 80k, 79k, 78k. 80k is the shared spot/options pivot, while 79k/78k is the main near-term gamma friction zone.
  • Stronger downside buffer: the 75k put wall. If price loses that area, downside protection is likely being repriced higher.
  • Structural upside targets: 85k and 90k. These still carry meaningful Open Interest (OI), but they read more like medium-horizon repricing zones than immediate triggers.
  • ATR risk thresholds: upper trigger around 82.4k and lower trigger around 74.6k. Spot remains between them, which keeps the market inside the range.

5. Scenario Map for Next Session

Scenario 1: Range repair

If spot reclaims the 4h EMA20 and pushes back above 80k/81k, the current pullback likely remains a high-level consolidation move. The key follow-up is whether 81k continues to absorb call-side supply and whether 25SEP26 put-side pressure eases.

Scenario 2: Further retracement

If price stays below the 4h EMA20 and continues to press toward 79k/78k, short-dated gamma pressure and put skew can stay supported. In that case, the 75k put wall becomes the next major repricing reference.

Scenario 3: Upside breakout

If spot can trade decisively above 81k and start leaning toward 82k/83k, the near-dated call ceiling becomes the main focus. Only if short-dated call supply is absorbed quickly would the structure begin to shift from range trading toward a higher-range breakout attempt.

Trader focus for the next session

  • Watch whether the 4h EMA20 is reclaimed.
  • Track whether 81k continues to attract near-dated call supply or starts to get absorbed.
  • Monitor if 79k/78k starts to see heavier put demand.
  • Check whether DVOL resumes higher or slips back into compression.
  • See whether block/combo flow keeps paying for vol and rotating Tenor bucket rollup.

6. Trader Focus

  • The key message today is not direction, but that short-dated volatility has been repriced higher again.
  • Spot is still in the upper part of the monthly range, so the broader trend is intact, but the loss of the 4h EMA20 reduces short-term tolerance.
  • The options chain and large-print flow both remain centered on 80k and 81k/82k, with hedging, rolling and tenure rotation still the dominant use case.
  • For experienced options traders, the better focus here is structure: short-end skew, calendar/diagonal relationships, and the nearby walls, rather than a simple one-way breakout call.
